What are the signs of ovulation?
Common signs include clear, stretchy cervical mucus (like raw egg white), a slight rise in basal body temperature (BBT), mild pelvic pain or cramping on one side (Mittelschmerz), and increased sex drive. Ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) detect the LH surge 24–36 hours before ovulation.
How long does an egg survive after ovulation?
A released egg survives for only 12–24 hours. Sperm can survive 3–5 days inside the female reproductive tract, which is why the days before ovulation are the most fertile.
Can you get pregnant outside the fertile window?
Technically, pregnancy is only possible if sperm meets an egg. Since this requires ovulation, pregnancy is extremely unlikely outside the fertile window. However, cycles can vary and ovulation timing is not always predictable — especially with irregular cycles.
